THE ITINERARY:
THE DETAILS:
DAY 1
Capri town & Marina Piccola
The best way to get to Capri is by ferry, and we suggest using ferryhopper.com to purchase tickets online. Some ferry companies offer mobile tickets, where all you need to board is a QR code, others still require you to pick them at the company kiosk at the port. Either way, it will be made clear what you need to do, when you purchase through ferryhopper. Another thing to keep in mind, is that weather can cause cancellations or delays with boats, so just make sure you can be flexible when traveling to and from Capri, or other cities along the Amalfi Coast.
Once you arrive to the port of Capri, you can either walk up to the main town, or take the funicular. Buying tickets is an adventure — the ticket office was located here the last time we were here, in May of 2022. When in doubt, ask someone.
When you reach the town of Capri, make your way towards your airbnb. You will pass the Supermercado Deco on your way — make sure to stock up on breakfast foods, coffee, snacks and alcohol.
Later, take a stroll back down into the town of Capri. There are lots of winding alleys, boutiques and shops to admire. If you are in the market for some handcrafted sandals, try Cuccurullo Capri Sandals — they are gorgeous, well-made and will last for years (speaking from experience!).
Grab the best caprese panino we have ever had, as well as other Italian delicacies from the Salumeria Rosticceria Capri Verde, for takeaway.
Trek down to the beach at Marina Piccola to enjoy your picnic lunch on the beach.
In the afternoon, meet your guide from Capri Hydro to embark on an incredible 1.5 hour tour of the island's caves and crevices on a standup paddle board. After your tour, you can rest and recuperate by the spiaggia.
Trek back to your airbnb, and once there, you can reward yourself with a very refreshing aperitivo of homemade limoncello spritz.
For dinner, had to La Palette Ristorante for spectacular food and seaside views.
DAY 2
East coast of Capri
This morning, enjoy a hearty breakfast before starting out on another full day in the outdoors of Capri (to go another route, Caffe Manari opens early and offers cappucini & tasty pastries).
Your first stop is Villa Jovis, the spectacular former residence of the Roman Emperor Tiberius, from the century BCE. The villa was built over multiple stories, and had its' own water supply — features that were uncommon for architecture of this period, but necessary given the geography. Don't miss Tiberius' Leap, where unwelcome or disobedient guests were allegedly hurled off the cliff.
Now head back down from where you came. Stop at Lo Sfizio for an excellent meal, before hitting the "trail" once again.
In the afternoon, visit the Arco Naturale, a beautiful rock formation that offers incredible views of the sea.
When circling back from the arch, take the long staircase to the left of the restaurant Le Grottelle downwards. Follow the path to Belvedere del Pizzolungo for some truly spectacular views. You can continue the path all the way along Via Tragara, until you return to the turnoff for your airbnb, or you can circle back where you came from (just keep in mind that you now have to go UP the staircase).
Since you are already here, you may as well enjoy a fantastic dinner at Le Grottelle, along with breath-taking views.
DAY 3
Anacapri & the west coast
In the morning, you'll set out for Anacapri, to discover the lesser traveled part of the island. The best way to get there quickly is by bus, which departs from Capri town frequently throughout the day.
In town, grab an espresso and some breakfast at Capri Cakes.
Grab a picnic to take on your hike.
With supplies packed, take the bus from Viale de Tommaso to to Punta Carena. Note that the above link is to the walking route, as the bus route is not supported on google. But it does exist and you will find it leaving from Viale de Tommaso.
Hike il Sentiero dei Fortini path along the west coast of Capri. It's approximately 3 hours, but well worth the effort. Take the bus from Anacapri to Faro, to begin your hike at the southwest lighthouse and work your way north, ending at the Grotta Azure.
Dedicate some time to explore the infamous Grotta Azzurra — You cannot swim into the cave until after 5pm (and the cave closes at 5:30pm). But you can board a rowboat that will take you into the cave for about 5 minutes (and will cost you ~€14).
After your visit, take the bus back to Anacapri.
Dinner at Aumm Aumm Ristorante Pizzeria, try the infamous Caprese pizza.
Take the bus back to Capri. Leaves from Viale de Tommaso, drops off in the town of Capri, here.
Make your way back to your airbnb. Celebrate your final evening with a toast of Limoncello before bed.
