Description: Nestled in the heart of the Dalmatian Coast, Trogir is a stunning medieval town that is often overlooked in favor of its more popular neighbor, Split. But those who take the time to explore Trogir and its surroundings are in for a treat. With crystal-clear waters, charming old town streets, and a relaxed Mediterranean vibe, this town is the perfect destination for those who want to combine a beach holiday with some culture and history.

DAY 1

Beach & Old Town




  1. Start your first day in Trogir by stocking up on supplies for the day from Ribola ex. Zagora Promet. This well-stocked grocery store offers a wide variety of options, from fresh fruits and vegetables to beverages and snacks. Grab some coffee, breakfast items, and snacks — make sure to grab some local delicacies, such as prosciutto, cheese, and olives, to enjoy a picnic on the beach later.

  2. With everything you need, head to the coast and spend the morning sunbathing, swimming, or paddleboarding. Trogir boasts several stunning beaches where you can soak up the sun and enjoy the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea, but staying at Jelena's, we found that it was incredibly relaxing and easy to just walk out the front door to Miševac Beach. As lunchtime approaches, take a break from the sun and enjoy a picnic on the beach from your supplies.

  3. After a leisurely lunch, it's time to explore the historical charm of Trogir's Old Town. You can either walk the 30 minutes, or take a boat ride from Beach Mastrinka just down the road to immerse yourself in the town's rich history and cultural heritage. As you enter the UNESCO World Heritage Site, you'll be transported back in time to a place where medieval architecture and centuries-old stories come to life.

  4. First stop: Kamerlengo Castle. Built in the 15th century, this impressive fortress stands as a testament to Trogir's strategic significance throughout history. Walk along its sturdy walls, climb its towers, and admire the breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the Adriatic Sea. From there, head to St. Lawrence's Cathedral, a beautiful Romanesque-Gothic structure that dates back to the 13th century. This majestic cathedral is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, with its intricate carvings and stunning artwork. Step inside to admire the grand interior, adorned with impressive frescoes and a magnificent altar. Don't forget to look up and marvel at the impressive vaulted ceiling. Take your time to explore the cathedral's chapels and crypt, where the remains of notable figures from Trogir's past rest.

  5. Spend the rest of the afternoon leisurely exploring the marble streets and narrow alleyways that wind through this small but charming town. On a particularly hot afternoon, a gelato from Bar Bella hits the spot.

  6. In the evening, head to Konoba Trs for dinner. This family-run restaurant serves up some of the best traditional Dalmatian dishes in town. Don't miss their famous seafood platters and homemade pasta. Take the boat back to your accommodation, or take your time with a moonlit walk along the shimmering Adriatic.

 


DAY 2

Green Market & Island Hopping


  1. Start your second day with a visit to the Green Market, where you'll find a variety of fresh produce, fruits, and snacks. Grab some breakfast and coffee here — we highly recommend trying orahnjača, a walnut breaded cake that melts in the mouth.

  2. If a full-day boat tour isn't your preference, consider taking the bus to the nearby city of Split. Just a short distance away, Split is a vibrant hub of history and culture. Explore the UNESCO-listed Diocletian's Palace, an impressive Roman ruin that has been transformed into a bustling city within a city. Stroll through the labyrinthine streets and squares, filled with charming cafes, shops, and historical landmarks. Don't miss a visit to the Peristyle, the central square of the palace, or the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, a magnificent example of Romanesque architecture. However, if you’re feeling adventurous and eager to explore more of the stunning Dalmatian coastline, head to the docks to join your the 5-island boat tour. This excursion will take you on a memorable journey to some of the most beautiful islands in the region.

  3. The tour typically includes a stop at the iconic Blue Cave, located on the island of Bisevo. This natural wonder is known for its ethereal blue glow, created by the sun's rays reflecting off the limestone walls and illuminating the cave's interior. The turquoise waters and the shimmering light create a magical atmosphere.

  4. From the Blue Cave, the tour will take you to the island of Vis, a true gem with untouched natural beauty. Explore the charming town of Vis, known for its picturesque streets, ancient ruins, and local cuisine. Take a leisurely stroll along the promenade, lined with colorful cafes and charming boutiques. Don't miss the opportunity to taste some of the island's famous seafood delicacies, such as freshly caught fish and octopus, paired with a glass of local wine.

  5. Continuing the journey, the boat will make its way to the lively island of Hvar. Known for its vibrant nightlife and stunning beaches, Hvar offers a mix of historical landmarks and modern entertainment. Stop for lunch at Fig Hvar for a taste of the islands fresh and local flavors. Explore the historic Old Town, characterized by its medieval walls, picturesque squares, and a hilltop fortress offering panoramic views of the town and surrounding islands.

  6. During your island-hopping adventure, the boat tour will likely make several stops at magnificent beaches along the way, but one that truly stands out is the renowned Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) beach. This beach has earned its fame for its striking shape, which transforms in response to the ebb and flow of the tides and the whims of the wind.

  7. In the evening, as you make your way back to Trogir, you might find yourself feeling a slight soreness from the invigorating yet bumpy boat ride. But fear not, for a delightful dining experience awaits you at FRANKA - rooms, wine, kitchen. Nestled within a beautifully restored stone house, this charming restaurant invites you to indulge in a well-deserved meal that will satiate your hunger. The menu at FRANKA is a delightful fusion of traditional Croatian cuisine and innovative culinary twists. For an authentic taste of the sea, consider trying their expertly grilled octopus. If you're in the mood for something indulgent, their homemade pasta infused with fragrant truffles is a culinary masterpiece.




 


DAY 3

Plitvice Lakes National Park



  1. On your final day in Trogir, get ready for an unforgettable adventure. Today you'll want to rent a car to day trip to the awe-inspiring Plitvice Lakes National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is truly a natural wonder, boasting 16 interconnected lakes and a plethora of breathtaking waterfalls. This is an absolute must-do on your itinerary — the stunning landscape is like no other. The journey by car is approximately two hours, so we recommend that you rent the car the evening before and leave early the next morning to have a full day of exploration. While there are food vendors within the park, It's wise to bring snacks and plenty of water to keep you energize throughout the day. You'll want to avoid the long lines during the peak season and maximize your time in the park.

  2. Before entering the park, if you care to stop for an early lunch, Vila Velebita is a charming restaurant located on the edge of the park that serves up delicious local dishes. The platters are enormous and feature grilled meats, vegetables and fresh, seasonal ingredients.

  3. Once you enter the park, we recommend following Route H — it's a 5-6 hour hiking adventure that covers the park's highlights while providing a well-rounded experience. However, there are many routes and you can cater your day however you wish. On Route H, you'll begin your exploration with the Lower Lakes region. Here, a network of boardwalks leads you on a mesmerizing path, allowing you to get up close and personal with the emerald-green lakes and the gentle flow of the waterfalls. After exploring the Lower Lakes, make your way to the Upper Lakes region, where wooden pathways lead you through a picturesque landscape of turquoise-hued lakes and ethereal waterfalls. As you continue your journey, you'll encounter several viewpoints that provide panoramic vistas of the surrounding forests and the shimmering lakes below.

  4. As the day draws to a close and you bid farewell to the natural wonders of Plitvice Lakes, make your way back to Trogir to drop off your rental car. In the evening, treat yourself to a delightful dinner at Piccolo Ponte, nestled in the heart of the old town. Try their grilled fish or lamb chops, and don't forget to save room for dessert.
